Professional and amateur photographers ages 21-plus are invited to participate in the third annual CAPTURE DOWNTOWN! 2013 LAS VEGAS PHOTO COMPETITION, presented by the city of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency, Symphony Park and sponsored by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and CityLife.
Downtown residents, workers, fans and photographers of all skill levels (amateurs and professionals) are encouraged to capture a variety of images that depict life in downtown Las Vegas. The theme of the 2013 competition is LIVE, WORK & PLAY, celebrating both the current revitalization of downtown Las Vegas and its active community. Entry categories are downtown living (people, pets and/or places), downtown working (people and/or places) and downtown playing (places).
A jury consisting of professional photographers, Jerry Metellus, Ryan Reason, and a Las Vegas Review-Journal photographer will select the first, second and third prize in each category. They will also choose the top 15 photos (five from each category, regardless of Amateur or Professional classification) for the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Reader’s Choice Award. Photographs are judged based on adherence to theme, composition, creativity and originality. Entries for the Reader’s Choice award will be hosted on the reviewjournal.com site from August 12 through September 9, 2013 for online voting.
Winning photographs will be featured at the Symphony Park Lecture on September 25, 2013 in the Historic Fifth Street School and in a special downtown section of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Prizes for first place include a variety of downtown fun packages that feature complimentary drinks and meals from downtown bars and restaurants, gift certificates from downtown retailers and hotels, downtown merchandise and more. Second and third place winners will be awarded certificates of recognition.
To enter, all photos should be submitted through the official website, www.lvdowntown.com. The CAPTURE DOWNTOWN! photo contest closes at 11:59 p.m. on July 31. Please visit the website for more information on the rules and requirements of the contest.
